NEW AMERICAN COLLEGE FUND

Our scholarship fund provides financial awards and student services for low-income immigrant college students living in the San Francisco Bay Area. For 2009, awards will be given in the amount of $4,000 - $6,000. In addition to financial awards, the scholarship provides ongoing support services. Award recipients are expected to participate in community service and/or professional development activities.

Scholarship Eligibility

  • Foreign-born
  • Documented financial need
  • Lived in California for 3 or more years of high school career
  • Anticipated or previous graduation from a San Francisco Bay Area high school within one of the following nine counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, or Sonoma
  • Current or intended enrollment in a two-year or four-year college or university for 2009-10
  • Demonstrated academic preparation and community or extracurricular involvement
  • Minimum GPA requirement for high school students: 3.3 cumulative high school GPA
  • Minimum GPA requirement for college students: 2.8 cumulative college GPA
Unfortunately we are no longer accepting applications for 2009.

Profile of 2008 Recipients

In 2008, we received 176 applications and awarded 9 scholarships. In selecting scholarship recipients, we consider a student’s academic performance, financial need, commitment to earning a college degree, community involvement, and personal character.  Last year, our scholarship recipients had:

  • Average GPA: 3.71 (GPA Range: 3.11 to 4.70)
  • Average family income: $24,000
