Supporting undocumented students in their pursuit of college, career and contribution

OVERVIEW OF OUTREACH PRESENTATIONS

PRESENTATIONS FOR UNDOCUMENTED STUDENTS

We believe that knowledge is power. There are many undocumented students who do not continue with post-secondary education because they don't know where to go for support or have been misinformed about the opportunities available to them. These presentations provide students with an overview of the information and tools necessary to continue their pursuit of college and meaningfully contribute to their communities. Presentations are between 60-90 min long, but we can make modifications if there are time constraints.
  • "Making College Happen": Financial Aid, Self-Advocacy & Building a Support Network
  • "Life After College": Opportunities, Resources & Staying Motivated
  • "Light in the Shadows": Emotional, Spiritual & Mental Health
  • "Bringing it Home": How to Start a DREAM Club at Your School

PRESENTATIONS FOR PARENTS OF UNDOCUMENTED STUDENTS

Parents of undocumented students are often unfamiliar with the U.S. education system and have many questions about how to best support their children. They want to provide meaningful support, but work responsibilities, language barriers and fear about their immigration status prevent them from openly seeking out assistance. These presentations provide parents with an overview of the information and resources they need to best support their children. Most importantly they provide parents with an opportunity to ask questions and connect to other parents within their community. Presentations are between 60-90 min long, but we can make modifications if there are time constraints.
  • "Moving Forward": How to Support Your Children
  • "Seguir Adelante": Como Apoyar a Sus Hijos Indocumentados (Spanish)

PRESENTATIONS FOR EDUCATORS/COUNSELORS

Educators can be some of the most powerful and dedicated advocates and allies to undocumented students, but they often lack the information and resources they need to effectively support their undocumented students. These presentations provide educators with an overview of the information they need to know, suggestions about where to go for additional resources, and best practices for advising their undocumented students. Presentations are between 60-90 min long, but we can make modifications if there are time constraints.
  • "How to Support Undocumented Students": Information, Resources, and Best Practices for Educators
  • "Bringing it Home": How to Start & Advise a DREAM Club at Your School

PRESENTATIONS FOR FUNDERS

Many foundations have an interest in supporting undocumented students but are concerned they lack the expertise, knowledge, and background to do so effectively. In these presentations, we present funders with an overview of the challenges and opportunities facing undocumented students, a rationale for support, and suggestions for different types of support. Presentations are between 60-90 min long, but we can make modifications if there are time constraints.
  • "The Case for Undocumented Students in Higher Education": A Rationale for Support
  • "E4FC": Programs, Organizational Model & Core Philosophy
  • "Beyond Money": What Students Need Beyond Financial Support

PRESENTATIONS FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC

We believe in the power of people of diverse backgrounds and perspectives being able to meet, connect, and discuss. Often the immigration debate is played out for us and then presented to us; rarely do we have an opportunity to reflect personally on immigration issues and the immigrants in our daily lives. These presentations present immigration as an experience rather than a position with which to agree or disagree. Presentations are between 60-90 min long, but we can make modifications if there are time constraints.
  • "Welcome the Stranger": Immigration from a Faith Perspective
  • "Immigration & Social Justice": Immigration from a Social Justice & Equality Perspective
  • "More than Just a Latino Issue": Diversity in the Undocumented Community
  • "Walk in My Shoes": Our Experiences as Undocumented Students (Panel)

STORYTELLING WORKSHOP FOR STUDENT GROUPS, CLUBS, AND ORGANIZATIONS

Personal stories give life and complexity to the experience of being undocumented. They also have the power to liberate the spirit. This workshop is for student groups, clubs and organizations who want to bring forth the individual stories of their members in a supportive environment and work together to build their collective story. This workshop is a powerful bonding experience: it can energize and rejuvenate a group and can be used as a platform for event and vision planning. This is also useful for student groups who are just starting or are already established. This is a two-day workshop with a gap between the first and second day. Usually each session is four hours each day, but we can make modifications if there are time constraints.
  • "Power of Storytelling": Reclaiming & Telling your Story

If you have any needs or interests that are not met by any of the presentations described upon, we would be more than happy to work with you to customize a presentation.
