NEW AMERICAN SCHOLARS PROGRAM
2013 APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS


APPLICATION OVERVIEW
  • The deadline for all application materials is WEDNESDAY, MARCH 13th. Your application package must be post-marked by this date.

  • All eligible applications will be reviewed for the applicant’s financial need, academic standing, and personal character.

  • Some applicants may be contacted for further information and/or invited to participate in interviews.

  • Scholarship recipients will be notified by June 1st.

  • Scholarship recipients will be required to:

    • Maintain a minimum 2.8 GPA for undergraduates or 3.0 for graduates
    • Send transcripts at the completion of each grading term
    • Participate in E4FC programming, events and activities, including an Awards Ceremony in mid-June (tentatively scheduled for Sunday, June 16th).
    • Maintain ongoing communication with our program
 
APPLICATION PROCESS AND DEADLINE


  1. Carefully read through our Eligibility Requirements to make sure you are eligible apply.

  2. Complete the online Preliminary Application Form.

    We strongly encourage you to complete this online application as soon as possible.

  3. Prepare your Paper Application Package.

    The Paper Application Package must include the following:
    1. The Undergraduate or Graduate Application Form
    2. High school transcript(s) (for undergraduate applicants only)
    3. College transcript(s) (for undergraduate and graduate applicants)
    4. Two personal essays (see application instructions)
    5. Three recommendation letters (see instructions below).
  4. Assemble your Paper Application Package in exactly the order above. Please only print single-sided. Do not stable, tape, or glue any of your paper application materials.

  5. Mail your Paper Application Package by WEDNESDAY, MARCH 13TH. Your application must be post-marked by this date.

APPLICATION CHECKLIST & REQUIRED ATTACHMENTS
  • Completed Online Preliminary Application Form

  • Completed and Signed Undergraduate or Graduate Paper Application

  • High School and College Transcript(s), including last completed term

  • Two Personal Essays (see application instructions)

  • Three Recommendations: Two recommendations must be provided by educators or academic counselors. The third recommendation can be completed by an educator, counselor, or work/community service supervisor. There is no specific recommendation form; recommenders are free to use their own format. Recommendations must be included in the application package; they should not be sent separately.
If selected as a finalist, you will be asked to submit:
  • Most recent copy of student and parent (if applicable) Federal Income Tax Returns (Form 1040).  If tax returns are not available, then other documentation of student and parent (if applicable) income in 2012.

  • Evidence of birth in a country outside of the United States (i.e. photocopy of birth certificate or passport).
